Okay, Fred. I know I was there, but I can't for the life of me remember how you set up the TdC 8001 to display the winning time on one GAZ4 and the @ time on the adjacent GAZ4 at the end of the stages at the Amgen Tour of California. Care to refresh my memory and record your instructions for posterity? Thanks.

Ok here goes.

The TDC 8001 is set for "Cycling Road" which is a subset of the Dual Timer program. The only major difference is that Cycling allows you to enter the race distance with the menu which then calculates average speed for the stage.

Cycling Road outputs the times to ALGE GAZ displays (or similar) using the Prefix "A" and "B". The displays are set for Program 1 (A) and Program 2 (B). The rule of thumb is Running time Right and @ time Left. Set the toggle switch down for HRS MIN SEC

The secret to using Cycling Road is how you sync the TDC 8001 to the stopwatch. The Chief Judge starts the watch when the race starts. This happens when the flag drops after the neutral zone. It can be up to a half hour after the ceremonial start.

Set up the TDC all the way until it asks for the
"time of day" to sync to. Input a time slightly ahead of the running watch. Then "sync" the TDC to the running time as the "time of day" That TOD must match the CJ stopwatch. If it doesn't turn the TDC off and try again.

Now put Bib 1 in the left hand LCD screen with the left keypad and Bib 2 in the right hand LCD screen with the right keypad.

Press "ALT" followed by the Left "INPUT" key. An entry time will now appear on the LCD info screen. Press Enter to move to the time portion. Type in 23:59:59.999 followed by Enter. Press "ALT" followed by "INPUT". The Info display will now show running race time on the upper line and zeroes on the bottom.

Take an external button and banana plug jumper to the back of the TDC. Jump Channel 0 start and Channel 4 finish together with the colored jumper. Connect one leg of the button to the jumper start and finish. The other to any ground.

You should now have the displays clicking along nicely. Running race time of the right hand display. Zero on the left hand @ time display.
If not, climb up the ladder and change the rotary dial settings.

Press the button. The Race time freezes and the @ time starts.

Pressing clear on each sides keypad once will clear the @ time and resume running time. Do not press twice or you will have to resync the whole system.

You can customize things a little if you need to. Channel 0 and 3 are the two acceptable start channels. Channel 1 and 4 are the two finish channels. Just use "ALT" "INPUT" on the right hand keypad to replicate the ablity to input times on that side and corresponding display.
You just use Channel 3 for start and Channel 1 for Finish instead.

Be careful clearing times and starting again. There is a slight bug in the dual timer program that shows up in Cycling as well. The digits will flash in the LCD screens and you will not be able to continue. If this happens, turn the machine off and start again.

Thanks!

I'm close, but don't quite have it working correctly. Following your instructions above, the running time of the race displays correctly on display B (program 2) and 0.00 is displayed on display A (program 1). When the button is pressed, the running race time stops, but the @ time does not start.

When the race time is running, the info display shows two lines as you described:
0001 b 2:52:15
0002 r 0:00
with the first line showing running time.

When the button is pressed, the info display shows:
0001 b RT 2:52:30
0002 r 0:00
and line 2 and display A remain on 0:00.

I'm either doing something wrong, or am missing something... please advise. Thanks again.
You have to "jump" the button signal to both the running time stop or channel 4 and the @ time start or channel 3. Conversely you can jump Channel 1 finish and Channel 0 start if you have it set up that way. One leg of the button goes direct the the ground banana sockets. The signal is jumped and then the other leg of the button is plugged in on top.

I did this from memory before. Bruce figured it out.
