Check out the latest issue of Ski Racing for some more scuttlebutt on the WC Timing issue. Below are some notable quotes from the piece.

"The FIS council decision could be a huge step backward for the WC Tour and race organizers, who now have to either pay Swatch for quality service (about $50,000 for a long week of races)or find another timing company." ..."And there is the risk of another confusing situation such as the Schladming, Austria, timing fiasco last spring" article by Patrick Lang

As usual, Partick Lang has every single fact WRONG in that article. Every single one.

Either Ski Racing is purposely slandering the Austrian team for some ulterior motive, or else they are exhibiting their usual level of journalistic incompetence. Possibly both.

The Austrian team has the best athletes, the best sponsors, the best management, the best coaching, the biggest budgets, the best equipment, the best suppliers, and the best races in the world. Simply put, the Austrians are stand-up guys.
We have grown used to the obvious prejudice in the US media on this story. So it goes. Our clients (AUT) and our new clients (CAN) and the results of whatever qualified 3rd party investigations that were effected tell the real story.

I would agree however that the FIS has chosen a path of potential destruction for WC events left high and dry without timing and data services, but that is truly their choice. One would suspect that it is a strategy designed to divide so that all may be conquered again. Best of luck to them all. This “problem” was not created by the World Cup organizers and yet they are the ones left scrambling. All we’re trying to do is compete in a free market.

I would engage in the discussion at length but the depth of misinformation in the SkiRacing articles from the get-go on this are mountainous and they have never bothered to contact me as the project director for our side of the story. The only attempt at non-bias was to publish a direct account of Albert Vetter’s (ALGE Timing) account of Schladming in his 4th language and then pick it apart linguistically. Why the SR guys like to pick on people when they’re down is hard to understand, but I guess that’s the media trend these days.

The inaccuracies in the new SR article, whether they are Lang’s or SR’s opinions, are likewise off-the-scale wrong. Again, so it goes. We enjoy tremendous support from a huge client base of informed professionals worldwide. Possibly slanderous articles written in an obscure specialty magazine by those who could not be bothered to get all sides of the story are not our primary concern regardless of how disturbing they are. This is not the first time these traits have been exhibited

Now you know why I don’t believe everything you see on CNN.

Best of luck down there.
