We were assisting at a race today where the RA was using SST National/FIS software. She could not get the system to print the Official Results. Unofficial printouts worked fine. Several calls indicated that there should not be a problem but there was. Turns out that the PC had been a laptop that had been upgraded to W2K from W98. It only had 128mg of ram. Not enough to operate the software properly. The results were printed and transmitted using the PC that timed the race on the hill.
PCs and memory are cheap in the overall scheme. Do not short change yourself trying to use some old PC. Make sure that you are running at least Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4 and 256 mgs of ram.
