Transponder System Fails at IndyCar Season Finale

As far as I know transponders are identification devices.

From F1 to cross country, cycling and many other sports, the exact time and/or finish order is given by a photocell (when possible) or photofinish equipment.

The transponder time represents the day-time when the communication between the receiver and the chip is established. Which is not necessarily the same order the cars crossed the finish line.

I feel he gave a perfectly reasonable response to your question without knowing any details of what actually occurred. However, I feel your reply was inexcusably rude. Most of the long time members of this forum know you have little regard for transponders in the timing world, but I am sure I am not the only one who would appreciate it if you keep your comments respectful and helpful to fellow forum members.

Is it a systemic problem with Chron-X?
Were the antenna loops installed incorrectly?
Did one of the teams illegally offset their transponder?
Nefarious, systemic, environmental, or "other"?

I was on the phone with my AMB rep today. Apparently one of the transponders was mounted upside down, causing the 3 thousandth of a second difference.

No system failure, no nefarious behavior, just human error.
