I just got my 3 Timy's and the initial plan is to use them as backup timers instead of stop watches.

But, I want to update the firmware. Win XP recognizes the device on the USB port, but is there a driver to install?

Also, is firmware updates done via serial or USB? I've tried both, but no luck

Thanks in advance... Mike

The TIMY needs to be updated using the serial port connection at this time. Very often you need to disconnect and reconnect power. Take a battery out and use the power supply connection.

The latest version of the software is from Dec 2002 v 02.c2 and the install program is 1.25 Use both.

Make sure you use the TIMY with the printer turned off for the first time you use them as "handtimers" Battery life is an issue with the printer on. The TIMY has a real nice feature for printing the memory later once you bring it inside and plug it in.
OK, I got it to update, but I think I have one unit that is possessed. Is there any way to do a full reset on the unit.

It seems to go into backup timing mode, but it is like some of the menu's are not visable. Non of the prompts are visable (ie: you can see the amount of memory used, but none of the menu keys on how to clear it).

Also, there no prompts for which program you wish to run. I managed to upgrade to the latest firmware.

The serial number means it was made in July of 2001. Units of that series have had issues with updating. The updates do take longer than they should and may hiccup. The Firmware in the TIMY itself was updated in Jan. 2002 and units made since that time have performed flawlessly. I would try updating it based on the notes provided by Bob Grover on this forum. If this does not help, send it back to where you bought it and they will send it to Austria to update the Firmware.
ALGE has instituted a new download plan as of November 1. Most useful programs are free and come with the TIMY. New programs and advanced versions cost extra.

The procedure for updating advanced programs is:

1) Download the current version of the TIMY software and update your machine.
2) Record the hardware serial number of your machine by pressing the "2nd" key followed by the "menu" The "info screen" should appear. At the bottom is the hardware serial number (HW_SN 00000005e5x2)
3) Contact your ALGE Dealer with the hardware serial number and the programs you want.
4) He will then arrange for you to purchase the code number that will activate the program
5) You will receive a 5 digit activation code for each of the programs you ordered.
6)Press "menu" followed by "general"
7) Scroll down to software-reg
8) Select the program you want to activate
9) Input code number
10) Restart TIMY and use

I would record the code numbers in you manual or other safe place. You might need them again to activate the software if you update in the future. Please test all new software with your PC and software prior to racing.
