I'm looking for ideas on a timing shelter. I currently use a Clam Shack ice fishing popup unit that works reasonably well for quick portable set-up and a one person operation. I've worked in pouring rain with no problems with this set-up. However, I would like something a little more substantial for longer days or more complex days that may require mutliple operators. Ideally, a trailer that doubles as a storage/transport unit is what I am looking for. If you have things that have worked for you, I'd be interested in hearing/seeing what you have.

I've used an old hard-side camping trailer before. This one had two windows on either side of the door that allowed two timers good visibility. We basically gutted the sleeping area for storage and parked it at the bottom of the hill for a couple winters until the new timing building was built. We ran power to it and kept a heat light on the windows to keep the frost down when we weren't there. It had a nice propane heater.

Just a thought.
For off-the-mountain timing applications, our minivan works pretty good. I removed the third row bench seat and flipped the two second row bucket seats to face the rear of the vehicle. I built a 4' wide x 3' plywood table. I have a small 900 watt honda generator, but everything also works using a 12V inverter plugged into a 12vdc outlet. NO shortage of cup holders!

This works pretty well for two timing operators. Lots of good visibility out the back windows. Self-contained. Warm in winter (for dog sled races), cool in summer (for bike races), no dust, no bugs, not enough room inside for anyone else to come in and bother you. Two ALGE Gaz boards displayed from the roof-mounted ski box.

Really mobile and quite easy to position at any side-of-the-road finish line. I've used this for several years now and I'll see if I can find a photo or two.
JB,

Read your post with interest as well as the replies. Interesting ideas! Something else that caught my eye about your post and that is your location. It looks like your location, that is listed, is Wausau. Is that as in Wausau, WI? The reason why I ask is that our team is looking at putting together a 'portable' finish building that can be moved up on the hill at the beginning of the ski season and removed before the season ends. The trailer would be road legal. We will be pricing this out to see what it will cost. Depending on if you are close, as in Wisconsin, and the times of the year you would need it, maybe we could work on sharing a trailer? If not, when our group gets more info and pricing, I will post the results here.

Thanks!
