I have a older Alge start wand with 2 outputs (Primary/Secondary). LIke STS-A2S.

I've noticed that it is starting to send out 2 start pulses 0.001 second apart on Channels SZ and K1 even though we only have 1 pair of wires hooked up to it.

This isn't a problem when using a computer with the S4 or S3, as I can ignore the pulse, but when the Race Staff runs with an S3 alone, it causes both the A and B clock to start. They then usually miss that the B clock is running and miss the start of the next racer.

Shy of replacing this wand, is there something else that I can look at? Is there a schematic of a this device available for purchase?

I would look at the timer. There is no way that the gate can give pulses on two seperate channels by itself. I think it is just coincidence. Try the timer in question with
other start gates or buttons and see if it still acts the same. Main circuit boards for ALGE start gates can be replaced without too much bother.

I agree with your comments, but I have seen it do it with both an S3 and S4.

On Saturday, I was using DTRIS and every start would generate a K1 and K6 pulse. Now, it may be a reflection in the cable, but I couldn't see any when I used a
TDR to sweep it. It also wouldn't show up as a K6 pulse.

I will do some more testing with all our devices. If I still have a problem, I will send you the wand if you are interested.
