This may be a "duh" question but if you have two totally redundant finishlynx systems set up, can you start both of them with one gun sensor?

I would say that if you have two totally redundant systems you also have two guns sensors, in my opinion they are indeed part of the system.
Yes if each camera has a receiver on the channel, both will receive the signal. But then you don't have two redundant systems, you have two redundant capture systems.
The book actually talks about independent systems, with separate power and start systems. In theory it is possible to have two normally open transducers two start wires (transmitters on different channels)and a cross over to make both cameras start even if only one of the transducer produced a signal. I did it with wires and the old SCSI cameras back in the early 90's have not tried it since.
