Ran a J1/J2 race yesterday with 220 racer each run. Using SST ver3.02 on pentium 133 win 95 with Alge s4 timer and Gaz4 scoreboard. This is exact hardware configuration we ran last season without problems. Noticed a distinct slowdown of computer response as the race progressed. By the 180th racer the response delay on screen and scoreboard from timer impulse was greater than 5 seconds. Restart of program did not recover resources, we needed to hard-boot the machine. No other window apps are runnning in the background.

Second issue that is related to the SST software that we had last season as well as this revision is printing multiple copies to a lexmark M410. Any selection of multiple copies (2) on the print dialog from inside SST will actually print (4) copies. Copy counts greater than 2 create a paper mess(Have not had the time to figure out if we are getting sum/multiply/exponent) This is not an issue with MSword, notepad etc.

Has anyone else experienced these anomalies?

thanks

I know Geoff uses the same basic arcitecture for the USSA/FIS software as he does for his bikeresults.com software. Try usuing that with 500+ racers, and unless you have a machine that is a PIII 500 or faster, I would not recommend wasting your time.

I have run races (as recently as yesterday) with 3.02 and not had a problem, but I am running a PIII 700 with 512 meg ram. I know it is not a great answer (and Geoff has not had a good answer either, except to increase the mimimum system requirements), but with the price of machines coming down, it is a great excuse to upgrade. If your machine is not too fast you can go back to DOS for just timing (though I can't seem to get the ski race timing versions to run on machines that are "too fast"). We keep an old machine around with DOS software as a back-up tried and true solution...

I have seen this happen with SST NASTAR software at Beaver Creek last year. Same symptoms, with large races (total weekend of >850 racers). Operating a 2 laptops and a desktop all at once. The desktop had the greatest delay, up to 20 seconds, with a laptop experiencing a 5 second ish delay. Have no idea of the problem, but I think it has to do with the size of the race and the config of the computer and operating system. Never found out what was causing the problem and
was fed up and switched to "other" software for this year for FIS style races.

ver 3.05 was posted on (12/13/2001, 1.4Mb) use this, and there should not be a slowdown problem. There was a problem with the buffer, but that was in 2.1 last year. I know the printer problem is for everyone, but Geoff knows about it and I am sure he will fix it>

Happy new year all!!
