Seiko Family Inter-Chatting

I have owned S143 and S123 watches for a while, and used them successfully with the DP10 printer from Seiko.

Today I received a S149 printing watch: having read quite a bit here about connecting them serially to PCs and other printers, I see this can be a task. But my problem is:

In the manual it says I should be able to have the S149 act as the master clock and synchronize my S123 and S143 watches to it for time of day as well as Auto Start Times. The only cable I have is the SC11 cable that the printers use, but for whatever reason the watches are not synchronizing. Do I need a different cable, and if so, where do I find it?

This was my way of not spending a lot more money and buying the Timy, which is the one I really want....

As a further question, does anyone have a PDF of the manual for the S123 watch? I don't have one, and would like to have it, but could not locate one online (found the S143 and S149 though...)
