The ALGE ASC1 start clock uses a lead acid battery. Power Sonic PS-1220, 12v 2.2 amp hour or equivalent. The size of the battery is critical. It must be 7" long x 1- 5 /16" x 2 -3/8" or slightly smaller. You will need a 5.5 mm nut driver to remove it. We use the WIHA model 265 here in the shop.

Place the ASC1 face up on a sturdy surface. Remove Plexiglas. Remove the 4 machine screws at each edge that hold the face on. Shift the face up, lift and rock out by pulling the face at the semaphore socket. Carefully reach into the socket, rotating the disk with the index finger.

Remove the ribbon cables from the main circuit board. Set the face aside being careful not to jar the clock mechanism.

Remove the protective plate from the transformer on the left side, bottom. Remove the four nuts that hold the battery carrier onto the housing. Two of the nuts are next to the transformer. Disconnect the battery cable from the main circuit board. Lift the battery holder/transformer backing plate out of the housing.

Remove the nuts holding the battery holder from the backing plate. Remove and discard battery in appropriate recycling facility. Install new battery maintaining proper polarity. Red = Positive, Black = Negative. Replace battery holder. Replace backing plate. Replace protective cover over transformer. Plug battery cable back onto main circuit board.

Reattach ribbon cables to main circuit board. The are coded and only attach to the correct socket.

Carefully lower the face back into the housing. Slide down until all 4 screw holes are aligned. Reattach screws, Plexiglas, etc.

Sometimes the clock mechanism gets jarred and the hands don't line up. You can get them to line up by rotating the actual mechanism from the back. There is usually enough cable to allow the clock to run while the face is held up. Make sure the lock nut holding the mechanism onto the face plate is secure. A lock ring pliers works well or any pliers that can engage the recessed holes.

Try not to move the hands without loosening the lock nut that holds them on.
