Programmatic access to live data in SkiAlp Pro

Vola has subscription based software to do just this, for a variety of outputs. It is extremely unlikely that they would leave a back door open to circumvent a paid product. 

To put a somewhat finer point on my question: I don’t suppose there is a Vola-recommended way to access live data, but rather I’m interested in a more elegant approach than simply polling their local SQL instance (which is accessible).

There are many uses for live data that don’t compete with Vola’s offerings, including letting NASTAR racers sign up for SMS results from their races, for example.

If someone has achieved this, I’d be very interested to learn about it.

You have a lot of options with Vola.

1.Check the database, not recommended.

2.Listen on scoreboard port, I use this option for running time, which I then push to TV graphic, I use CasparCG for graphics.

3.This one I use for my live timing. Listen on port 5409 and you will get start, finish, intermediate ...

I am fine, thanks. Yes, you can transit the time with this connections. I think all Vola softwares work on same principle.

Yes I am using this "strategy" for TV graphics and Live timing.

Video will not really help you with this. You need to program custom software which captures this outputs and send them to web site.

So what you should do for start, is to use some terminal to listen on network port 5409 I use real term, this will give you outputs from vola which you can use in your programing ...

I tested a bit myself as well and what I get via 5409 looks clear. But how do you get the names via 5409 and not only Bibs?

Names I get out of Vola database. In the event folder of Vola you have 2 files for each competition. Event001.scdb file and event001.Ex.scdb or similar. It is simple sqlite database. Normally I make a copy of files and then read the copy, just not to brake something in Vola. It is easy ...

I have read data from the db's before and I know how that works so I think I have the bits and pieces now to do something. The real game changer here that I did not know was the 5409, thanks for that !

No problem. 5409 is nice, what I miss is running time, this I take from SCB ... But next issue with Vola is that it can only show 3 racers on scb - only 3 on course, and sometimes we have 10 or more on course...

@Michoux I Tried to listen on Scoreboard port from Vola, but I saw that they use their own protocol to communicate with led displays. Which one would you suggest as most "Straight Forward" protocol to try and pull data from?

Also you said that by listening on port 5409 you can get the live timing, how do you setup which ip to connect from Vola SkiAlpPro on this port? To point it at my program that listens on this specific port?
