Fred (or anybody) I have several old style Alge Finish Eyes, the big silver ones. Anyway, one of them, when you plug it in, the needle goes immediately into the green, before you point it at any reflector.

I took the cover off and put my thumb over the photo-diode, no change. I put my thumb over the photo-transisitor, no change.

I see that there are 4 potentiometers on the circuit board, and my vague recollection of electronics class suggests that if I fool with those, the photo-transistor will come back into it's operating range.

But I figured I'd post this on your discussion board to see if you are anybody else has other thoughts.

The pots control the intensity of the output of the transmit diode, the sensitivity of the input, the output to the meter, and the delay to the timer. The delay pot is usually pointed downward so that you can adjust it from outside. You can mark these with a paint marker and then move them around if you want. Gut feeling is that you will need to send this cell back for service. We will them either replace the main circuit board or send your unit back to the factory for rebuilding. We have several cells of this age in stock for replacements but would ask you to leap forward to the RLS1n cell as it so much better thought out in all regards. Your cell (which from the description is from 1982-84) will be given a trade in value, regardless of the damage.
