Hydrogen Car Race

Here at the 2008 National Middle School Science Bowl we are timing and scoring the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Race. Middle schools from across the country have descended on the Colorado School of Mines for this event which includes a race for model fuel cell cars that each team has built. The event is sponsored by GM and hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

This mornings activities included 3 rounds of qualification heats where each of the 36 teams had three tries to get the best time on the 9 lane track. Lynx photofinish camera running at a mere 300fps was used with the fastest vehicle completing the 10 meter track in just under 4 seconds. Here are some photos from the event.
