Ted Savage and Albert Vetter say that the "list" of approved start gates and photocells will be available on November 25. I am told that all of the name brand equipment that they are testing has passed thus far. The concept of homologation is to test a representaive sample of a device that then acts as the benchmark for the entire class. They could of course pick up a bum 12 year old TAG HL2-11 cell and find that the those don't pass but I doubt it. The entire purpose of this exercise is to create further accountablity.
Actually the "list" was issued today.

Just a refresher for ALGE cells:

RLS1 - metal cased photocell made from 1982-1990
was packaged silver until 1987, then it came black.

RLS1/e - This model used a mechanical relay to allow use with a battery and had banana plug sockets on the rear. This variant is not homologated for use at the finish line with the battery. It is perfectly fine for use as an intermeadiate or speed trap cell with the battery or direct to a timer with the din plug cable.

RLS1c - 1990>1999. plastic case with yellow adjustment knobs. Used a direct connection to timer via din plug or a din plug to banana plug jumper to turn on battery. There were a few of these units made as designated receivers (RLS1cRx). This cell is frequently upgraded by adding an on/off switch and banana plug sockets.

RLS1n - 1999> Current version of the plastic case with yellow knob. This cell comes in two versions; the standard reflector cell and through beam transmitter, and the receiver unit (RLS1nRX) with the race/adjust switch. All members of this class can be used anywhere. The RX receiver can in fact perform the function of a transmitter, or a reflector cell with the switch on adjust, or a receiver with the switch on race.

ALGE Start gates

STScM2s- 1990>2002 This gate has the spring loaded stick (wand) with the 5/16 threads.

STSM2s - 2002> This gate has the stainless springless stick (wand) with the 3/8 threads.

STSnQ -2002> Special 4 contact gate made for World Cup in Europe. Available by special order only.

STScM2s can be drilled and retapped for the new springless sticks. You must use these sticks from then on.
