GAZ4 - display starts inconsistantly

Don't know why it happens, but that same thing happens with two of mine. At this point, when the digits don't start rolling on the first click, I just click it again and off it goes.

The input of a pulse to start the internal clock on the GAZ4 (GAZc) is touchy. We have experienced the same things that you describe. Using a good solid button is the best solution. Buttons used for swimming that have a positive click are the best. Changing the circuit board or battery will not help.

Thanks, will using the 4-prong input help? It's strange the clock has worked well for the last three years, and just recently started giving us problems.

We are using the ALGE startbeep to generate the pulse, is there a way to have the startbeep generate a longer pulse to start the race?

Currently we connect our, start gate, gaz and startbeep with channel 0 of our timy (& laptop). After the conections are made we use the beep to start the timy, then unhook all the wires except for the start gate to timy.

It is really unfortunate that the very expensive clock doesn't woprk properly. If I had known of this flaw I would have purchased a clock from a different company.

Are you using the GAZ4 as a big "time of day" clock that is being synced once at the start of the day? Is it then being disconnected and taken to the start running?

The start beep sends out a standard length pulse. Increasing the duration (which you can't) probably will not help your problem. Try using a button that you press and hold down for a couple of seconds. See if the situation changes. You can certainly try the 4 pole Amphenol input. The banana plug inputs on some of the GAZ main circuit boards break or get cold soldered joint issues.

I suspect that your main circuit board is "touchy" and should be replaced.

Main cirsuit boards are easy to swap out. You just need a 5.5 mm nut driver and a small Phillips screwdriver. All the connections are disconnect type.

Hi, we are using the clock to show "race time" starting from 0:00. After race start there are no connections to the clock otherwise it shows split times.

I am definately happy with Precision Timing up here in Canada I have just not had a chance to give them a call.

I will try to manually increase the duration of the pulse to see if this resolves the issue, thanks for the help.

One other question, is the "4 pole Amphenol input" plug easy to find?

Yes. Mike Mullins will take good care of you. It is hard to tell where people are writing from. The 4 pole plug is a stock item at Precision. Very hard to find on your own.
