Indoor meets are always a challenge with light. The photographers were out in force tonight. The organizers wanted an intimate feel for the racing.

5L300 on 5000 fps , 50m f1.4 , phased light on, low light filter setting. Manual gain of 175
The majority of the lighting was from the riders left. The photographers were located 15m from the riders shooting back towards them on their left.
This facility has multiple lighting levels. Level 1 is fluorescent lights for safety and training. Not enough for high speed operation. We typically use 2000 fps at that light level. Level 2 is sodium lamps and the fluorescent lamps pointing straight down. 3500 fps and gain of 200. Level 3 is banks of high output lamps shining from riders left with the top lamps off. The attached image was taken then. Level 4 is left and right banks on and top lamps off. Level 5 is all lamps on.
Level 3 is safe and makes the stadium look nice from a theatrical standpoint. Level 5 is required for World Cup TV events and there is zero issues with flash photography.
