Capture button flaky

It sounds like the computer is finding the USB to serial at different times during start up. Try to make sure the same USB port is used every time and plug in before you start the computer. I have one adapter that that when I plug in after start up shows up as a different port number than if it was plugged in at start up.

Some of our computers it in the same place every time, and others somewhere different every single time. Windows device manager is your friend. Plug, unplug, see where it is.

Open Lynx and set it.

Yes USB adapters do that. A lot of the ski folks paint the key and the port different colors so ey go back in the same ports.

Thanks for the help. We did a combination of what all of you recommended.

When we have to use a new computer or a new port for some reason, we did what Michiana recommended with looking at the ports and setting it.

Whenever possible, we're keeping the capture button on the same port and that keeps everything connected as recommended by FKP and Field Events. We do a variation of what the "ski guys" do and have a piece of colored tape by the appropriate USB port.
