At MichianaTiming.com we are a Jaguar Timer using equipment from Innovative Timing Systems. Our system also uses and RFID tag, but unlike this equipment we actually use overhead readers. So unlike these pictures where you have black mats down with the red tape, we would have an overhead truss or side antennas at each timing point.
The RFID system works on the same general principles as ours to my understanding. Our Jaguar system however has been gaining market share in bike racing and particularly in Gran Fondos (example photos: http://www.rbcgranfondowhistle...y/2011-finish-awards ) See, for example, photo five of twenty and look on the left, you will see two white plates with the antenna wire running off of them.
It is also being widely used in mudd runs and bmx races where having a mat down that could get slippery when wet is an issue.
It is great to see the overall disposable RFID market expanding.
