We (the Texas Bicycle Racing Association) are looking into purchasing some display boards but are exceedingly ignorant about timing systems and displays.

I imagine we will need one 1-sided 5- or 6-digit display for elasped time. Also, we would like one 1-sided 3 digit display for showing gaps. Also, if 2 or 3 categories are going on at the same time, can we toggle elasped times and gaps from the various races?

Are we on the right track? How much should we expect to spend? Are we missing anything? Who are the players in the market? Thanks.

You are in luck. Phoenix Sports will be in College Station for the USCF Junior Raod Championships next month. We will have a complete inventory of timing equipment, software, and displays on hand to execute this event. You can meet us there and we will happy to show you the equipment and techniques used for a successful event. The ALGE TDC 8000 timer is the most versatile machine that you can but for timing time trials, crits, and road races. The major differences in displays concern portablity and ease of rigging. The more expensive displays are easier to transport and use.
