We are starting to configure Win 7 32 bit machines with the legacy USB adapters we have been using.

The normal installation wizard may not work the first time. Be patient.

Start by downloading the drivers from the website.

www.sabrent.com blue color, used normally by Lynx. Is also called a Prolific brand

www.belkin.com smoke brown color, called a F5U409

www.aten.com silver color, known as UC-232A adapter

You might have to go through the Windows device manager route and reinstall the driver there.

Also try removing the USB adapter and plugging it into a new USB socket and letting Windows try again.

I had the "usual" install problems with 2 Prolific USB to Serial adapters for use on Windows 7 machines. After drilling down pretty deep on the Prolific support forum, it seems that the PL-2303 chipset suffers from a counterfeiting problem. If you have an adapter with the counterfeit chipset, it's likely you won't get it to install on Windows 7. I recently purchased a Gearmo adapter with the FTDI chipset and it installed directly into Windows 7 without problem and is working correctly for all applications.
