Split Second Timing Demo didn't work

Hello all,

I ventured to the timing hut tonight to do some testing as I just recently made a cable for my Alge S4 and the Display (also Alge) that we have. I had great success with the Alge software comf.exe which grabs the data to a file...The GAZ4test.exe software also worked well, so I know there are no problems with my cables or the setup.

If I ran the Split Second software (Skiclub) and tried in demo mode then I did not ever receive any times. I set it up with the right Baud rate, S4 timer and everything else. The control of the Display did work. The other peculiar thing was that I then had to reboot the machine before the comf.exe program from Alge would be able to control the com port again.

I just did a straight install of the software on a Win2k machine (PIII-750Mhz) which has two com ports.

Can anyone give me any ideas what I should test. I'd like to get the Demo working and then I'll convince my club to try this software as it appears to be the best I've found to-date.

I found the note below on the Split Second site, but can anyone tell me if I need this even in the Demo mode (i.e. Before I have a dongel?)

Using Windows NT/2000:
To use the timing features with Windows NT and Windows 2000 you'll need to install the software below which allows the USSA/FIS Software to access the Software Key.

keyfiles.zip (140k)

To install:

- unzip the file above into an empty folder on your computer
- run the file install.exe

Ok, so just so that I'm clear (afterall it's a 30 minute drive to the club timing hut to test this)

I should first install the USSA/FIS version on the machine before installing the ski club version and then this should work? If that's the case then I'll install this version the next time I'm there as I've downloaded that software as well.

Just a couple of notes. Presumably you have
done the right things in 'Setup and Test' mode,
like selecting the Alge S4 and 4800 buad, plus
selected the right channels under the sub-menu
of 'Input Mapping'.
Note that the S4 needs to be in Program #3,
or time of day, and its memory can't be full or
it won't transmit.
We are using the S4 with WIN98 at Gunstock for
Nastar also using the 'Ski Club' software
with dongle for other races, like team and
school races.
