I have one that will baffle most! After getting my PTB back for the second time after this years firmware upgrade (v13). This weekend I ran a USSA race and was having trouble on saturday getting the printer working. The timer was communicating with the computer and everything else seemed ok. A little later the printer started working perfectly. Later still the printer started acting up again and then worked again, very strange. It was during all this that I was scratching my head and trying to figure it out. While shuffling some papers I noticed that the printer failed momentarily and then restarted. I started to wave my hand around the timer and watched the led light flicker on and off. I then narrowed it down to it being sunlight that shown on the area that the tape comes out being the culprit. Sunlight on the tape, the printer works. Shade the printer and it stops working. I got throug Saturday but Sunday called for weather including snow, no chance of sunshine. I then took the timer into the office and tried to feed the photo-sensitive printer with artificial light and see if that would fool it. Sure enough a lamp on the appropriate area would ensure it perfect opperation. I then hauled a desk lamp to the timing shack and proped it just above the printer. It got me through Sunday without a problem, and it was cloudy all day. Why would a printer ever be sensitive to light? This unit will be sent back for service.
