It is amazing how much BMX has changed...
I raced BMX as a kid when the sport just started (in the 1970's).. There was no timing at all. All places were hand picked by parents who were recruited out of the parking lot to "help out".
Starting positions were randomized by racers picking a numbered golf ball out of a coffee can..
