The SE unit of my SF2 is not sending data to the ZE unit at the finish. We checked our wiring with the Mt. electrical staff and it seems to be ok. The ZE unit is sending voltage to the start. We keep getting the error message that indicates that the SE unit is not sending data. We replaced the 9V batteries in the SE unit with alkalines until we can buy rechargables.

Any ideas of areas we can check?

The SF2 start unit (SE)has two items to check. Make sure that the 9v transistor batteries behind the metal plate are in good order. You can buy replacement 9v rechargables at Radio Shack. Secondly, check the condition of the EPROM on the circuit board that the traffic lights are mounted on. The small paper label that covers the EPROM's programming lense can come loose and allow the EPROM to be erased by the sunlight. Replace the EPROM and you should be back up and running. Check the connections and ribbon cables. Many times the act of removing and reinstalling a cable is all that is needed to clean the contacts.

Always bring your SE, ZE, and display in after the season is over. It is possible that the unit got hit by an electrical spike from lightning or other source over the summer.

Troubleshoot problems with the SE unit by installing it near the ZE unit at the Finish. That way you can easily see if the problem is with the units or the hill wiring.

Try not to play sound systems on the same wiring as the SF2. The SF2 is actually transmitting data back and forth on the pair and it can get confused by interference.

You may wish to replace your circuit boards with factory rebuilt ones. Our records indicate that the Snowbird Resort bought this reconditioned in 1994. The SE main circuit board was replaced by a rebuilt one in 1997. The cases and mechanical pieces are probably fine.
