I am looking for hands-on "how to do it" instructions for connecting my tdc 8000(s) to my PC running Split Second. I have received the software and dongle, but still am not sure how to hook them up and make them talk.
1) Do I need to make the cable as described in prior postings, or can I buy it direct from Phoenix? 2) Do I connect both the primary and secondary 8000s or just the primary? If so, can I switch midrace if I have primary failure?
3) Once I am connected and have opened the program will it be obvious how to make the data flow? Is this in the Split Second documentation?

We make a dual cable for the TDC 8000 to talk to the SPlitSecond software. $60.00

The blue leg connects to the RS232 port on the 8000. Set up the Tdc 8000 in Split , 100ths precision etc. You select 9600 baud in the 8000 menu (ALT+MENU/ option 17) and TDc 8000 Plus in the Split Second setup and test menu. Run the software as if you you were using an S4 or other time base. The Tdc 8000 outputs the same data regardless of the program. You can either run the TDc live or the software or both.

I am not sure about the SST documentation. I have not seen it recently.
The green leg of the cable connects to the display board port on the 8000. Disconnect the blue leg. Select channel 2 STANDING time in the 8000 menu (ALT+MENU/ option 20) The software can only accept NET times, not running time. Select TDC 4000 in the Split Second setup and test. You must run the TDC 8000 in Split, 100ths precision and do ALL of your timing and bibo selection etc. The software only accepts the net times. Any bib not in the data base will be flagged. Otherwise the software will just sit there and accept times.

You cannot switch machines during a race. You must correct the backup electronic times using EET techniques and enter them into the software.

You can drive the scoreboard from either Split Second or from the 8000. You just need the right cable. Make sure both the 8000 and the scoreboard are set to the same baud rates if you use one serial port.
Note that there is a 1/100 second deviation about every 10-15 racers between Split Second and the 8000.
The 8000 times to 1/10000 (4 digits after the decimal) and truncates the last 2 digits for net times.
Split second receives times to 1/1000 (3 digits after the decimal) and then truncates the last digit. This means the times are truncated twice instead of once.
Which is right is controversial. I do not know which is "right"......
SST has a field for the 8000 in the setup. It accepts Time of Day for starts nd finishes. It calculates net time, just like using an S3 or S4.
