I know milliseconds has used the MaxStream products before. We had them (Mac) out for the Nike Team Nationals XC race and we were feeding live splits to our server from about a half mile away (Line of Sight).

I also have talked to the MaxStream guys. They are very informative and helpful on the phone. I think the prices are fair too.

We use the Maxstream radio modems all the time and have had great luck with them. Typically we will use the omni-directional pencil antenna on the remote modem and a small Yagi on the base. We also use just a 9v battery on the remote, but will plug in the base. With that setup we have gone up to a mile with no difficulty. I suspect in the right conditions you could go further, but we haven't had the need.
