Although this does not answer all your questions, it may help with the cases. We have had a variety of custom road cases and pelican cases made for various timing equipment we use in Australia. We've used Samuelsons Cases in Sydney, we've taken the gear in to them and they've spent time with us working out the right case and layout. They custom foam and cut to size, so everything fits where it should and is well protected on the road. I believe they can vent the cases as well. Their details are on the web, or PM me if that helps.
