Using the Seiko S149 timing stopwatch - 9-pin output to PC port to transfer timing data to PC.

Hello,

I heard a while back from this Blog site, that individuals were interested in transferring their timing data from their Seiko S149 stopwatch to a PC.  There was also a vendor or person or group making these cables - in batches of 10 ---- 9-pin type or RS232 cable to PC (USB or equivalent?).

I am wondering and very interested if these cables exist and are still available, who makes them,  an email address, etc.  OR, if anyone would have the schematics of the S149 stopwatch so we can build the cables ourselves.

Thank you in advance, take care,

cheers,

Ooby

Hi,

It has been 20 + years since I have worked on this.  I did make some cables because I was not able to get any.  I was told Seiko only make a handful 30 years ago.  I believe someone in Australia bought most of them.  Anyway I did make some and still have two and I did create an interface.  I can't find the specs anymore.  I stopped using it because there are lots of manufactures that make timing unites that have a built in serial interface.

Hi

it was Harold at Seiko Australia who was making the connection box your referring to. We purchase the last 10 he had and several of the local clubs grabbed a few each after we used them for our event.

we modified our timers with an RJ45 connector on the input jack (seiko did have those plugs) so as to trip the timer with a light beam.

these was also some software on the net that converted the Seiko output to what we needed on the laptop but I can’t remember what it was called as it was nearly 20 years ago we used them.

i just found one of ours ( we use transponders now) - see attached pictures
