This was my 9th Langkawi. I am invited as 'Results Manager'. I use my own software, developed over 20 years of events, large and small.

We've had various timing/photofinish teams over that period including DeportPublic using AMB transponders. When we had live TV, I drew data from DeportPublic's system, processed it into classifications and and fed XML data to a character generator system that I helped the TV company devise.

For 2005 & 2006, Timing Ireland has handled photofinish & timing. We did not use transponders and, frankly, did not miss them as the team was very quick.

For photofinish, both a Lynx and an Alge OptiC with an operator on each was used. For timing, a system controlled by an Alge TDC8000 was used. My good friend Brian Price of Timing Ireland should be able to fill you in on all the details. He's a visitor here.

At the TT, I enabled the commentators and announcers to see a dynamically generated web page of scores via WiFi PDAs and laptops.

We worked with Malaysian MNCF officials with whom we enjoyed an excellent rapport. This really helped us run a tight show.

An adapted air-condioned luxury tour bus on the finish line was used as the results ops centre. It had enough room for the photo-finish consoles, results, two large photo-copiers and a meeting area for the commissaires.

Photos are from 2005 and 2006.
