Hi

I wrote a program that uses the serial interface of FinishLynx to display a simple leaderboard on a PC. The program also contains a webserver for distributing the leaderboard to all devices on the same network. It's free to download and use at http://code.google.com/p/sports-leader-board/

Hi Ulrik,

do I understand this right? You need a PC connected serially to the Lynx-machine, and on this PC your program is running a web-server.

Wouldn't it be more comfortable to have the webserver running directly on the Lynx-machine?

I am asking, because today, most of the PC don't have any COM-Ports. Espacially if you take a look at laptop-computers (which are the ones we are using with finish-lynx).

Ciao

Hi Dirk

You are right that you need another PC acting as webserver. The reason is you need to comunicate with FinishLynx using a serial port, I don't think there are any other ways then using a physical com port. Another reason that is true for my environment is that the PC client running FinishLynx must be hosted by the camera for getting an IP address, it can't access a network connected to internet.

But the serial com port problem can be solved by using a USB -> serial device.

If anyone think this of any use but would like some kind of change, please write here or send me an email.
We allready have a USB->serial converter for the manual recording key - and another one for our finish-line diplay (time only). So I would need an USB-hub to connect another one ;-)

In my setup, I could try to use our "timing-client", which connects our " SELTEC Track and Field" meetingsoftware with the Lynx software.

This PC is connected to the LAN of the facility as well as with the Lynx LAN (with a different NIC).

I have to think about this ;-)

At the moment, we are using an external system, which connects to the SELTEC database to display start- and resultlists - but this has to be operated manually by another person.

Having the results displayes automaticly after judgment would be an improvement...

It seems you have a nice setup.

Using another NIC was of course a solution to the network problem.
I had not thought about running the web server on the same computer as my idea was to have a computer/screen nearby the timing equipment as we are using it, but I guess that it can be solved by using virtual serial com ports on the FinishLynx client and run the server either on the same client or on another computer in the network. I haven't tested it but it should work.
I am "working" at the "Sports- and Rectration Facility" Frankfurt-Kalbach.

Since the facility was build 20 Years ago, this scoreboard was installed - but we were able to use it this way only for 3 years now. At that time, I created the tool to connect SELTEC to the old scoreboard.

We do use the Finishlynx for 2 years now, so most of the stuff we are using was developed before I know about the Lynx system and is based on SELTEC.

Ciao
