I would like to introduce everyone to the new race result Active System, a German-engineered active chip system that I believe is the most advanced chip timing system in the world.
The system has a level of precision that is very, very close to Finish Lynx, a 3D chip antenna, expected 6-7 year battery lifespan (4 yrs guaranteed), the ability to extend the battery life by putting the chips into "deep sleep" mode in the off season, max speed 150 kph, and superior read height. The chips are 100% waterproof and shockproof, and do not use the leak-prone clamshell design of some competitors. Of course, the read rate is extremely close to 100% (we have never actually seen a missed read).
All of the above specs are great, of course, but honestly those specs are exactly what professional timers should demand from a modern high-end active system.
Here is what makes the race result Active System a game changer: the LoopBox. Imagine timing a triathlon that requires five timing locations, and all of your timing equipment fits in a carry-on bag on the plane. Now imagine that all of your transition reads come in at the finish line, wirelessly, with no additional equipment required. And now imagine that reads from your two remote timing locations (let's say the bike turn-around and the run turn-around points) come in at the finish line as well, because they were stored on the chip itself!
At this point you are probably thinking one of two things: either the claims above are bogus, or this system has to be ridiculously expensive.
First, the price. For the triathlon example above, you would need 5 timing locations. This can be done with one decoder box at $3999 and 4 LoopBoxes at $1690 each, for a total of $10,759. Yes, just over $10k for 5 timing systems. The ActivePro Transponders start at $65 for low quantities, and go down to $32 if you purchase 10,000 of them. For 500 chips, they are $45 each.
Finally, is this real? Absolutely. I would invite you to try a test system for yourself. We are shipping test systems now, at $149 for a 3-day rental, plus shipping.
