I have recently started using a Sierra Aircard cellular modem ( I am using Verizon, but there are other providers ) that is provoing to be pretty slick.
Currently I am in Idaho to time the Boulder Mountain Tour (x-c skiing). The finish line usually has real spotty cell service, but yesterday I did a test and was able to post to my results website from the timing shack. I couldn't get enough signal strenghth for a voice call, but the data went through fine. Speeds are typically aroung 54k, although sometimes up to around 100k.
While driving out here, I had my laptop on with the Aircard on, and there were very few places where I was not on line. I have a small external antenna that attaches to the card, and is crucial for achieving best results in marginal strength areas.
