Hello, here I offer HuTag RFID Replacement Strap Housing (V2.0 TPU Edition) model for print.
Don't discard fully functional timing chips just because the plastic strap loops broke.
After years of demanding service (often 8 to 10+ years of active racing), original HuTag transponders suffer from material fatigue. Their integrated plastic anchor loops become brittle, develop micro-cracks, and eventually snap under stress. While the internal RFID electronics remain 100% operational, a broken loop makes mounting the transponder on an athlete's ankle impossible.
This custom 3D-printed TPU housing gives your timing hardware an indestructible second life. Simply trim off the damaged plastic loops and snap the original transponder body directly into this flexible, shock-absorbing case.
Why 3D Print Instead of Buying New Chips?
Purchasing a brand-new UltiChip transponder costs approximately €9.00 per unit. For timing companies managing hundreds of chips, replacing damaged units quickly turns into an expense of hundreds or thousands of euros.
- Minimal Material Consumption: A single printed housing weighs only 11.5 grams.
- High Production Yield: One 1 kg spool of Bambu Lab TPU 95A yields up to 86 finished housings
- Negligible Print Cost: Raw material cost per piece is only around €0.40.
- Over 95% Direct Savings: Every recovered chip saves you €8.60, representing a 95.5% cost reduction compared to buying new units. Refurbishing a set of 100 chips costs just about €40 in filament instead of €900.
Key Design Features
- Direct Strap Fit: The low-profile internal tunnel is dimensioned specifically for standard 22 mm neoprene/velcro ankle straps.
- Anti-Tear Fillet Design: Entry and exit strap ports feature fully rounded internal transition curves ($r = 1.2\text{ mm}$), eliminating stress notches and preventing layer delamination under tension.
- Streamlined Ergonomics: Fully contoured outer perimeter ensures smooth transitions without catching on wetsuits, footwear, or timing mats. The chip polarization in the holder remains unchanged.
- Secure Retention: The natural elasticity of TPU 95A firmly grips the trimmed chip body without the need for screws or adhesives. This 3D model was designed with the assistance of AI tools. All photos show a real, physically 3D-printed model.
- Version v2.0 Compared to Version 1.0, Version 2.0 features rounded strap slots, is lighter, stronger, and has an adjusted slot width. This holder only features the version text on itself (v2.0).
3D printing settings
Recommended Print Profile (Bambu Studio)
- Printer: Bambu Lab P1S / X1C / A1 (feed directly from the rear spool holder, bypass AMS)
- Filament: Bambu TPU 95A HF (High Flow)
- Layer Height: 0.20 mm (Arachne wall generator)
- Wall Loops:6! (creates solid monolithic perimeters around strap load areas)
- Infill: 100% (Rectilinear!)
- Supports: Disabled (prints cleanly flat on the build plate without supports)
