The ALGE RLS1/e photocell was made from 1980 to 1989. It is either a silver (1980-1986) or black (1986-1989) metal case with swivel on bottom and a DIN plug with banana sockets on the rear. The "E" model was designed to be powered directly from the timer with the Red "STOP" cable up to 150 long. It can also be powered by an external 6-15vdc battery and the signal cable attached to the banana plugs. The battery is connected to a jumper cable that uses PIN 4 of the DIN as positive power and PIN 3 as common ground. The voltage is then stepped down to 5 vdc by a voltage regulater on the "power circuit board" inside the cell. The banana plug sockets allow the signal cable to be connected. Polarity is not important with this cell as the pulse is generated by a relay and not directly by the transistor.

The RLS1 model of the same age does not have the "power circuit board" It can only be powered by 6vdc. You can make a "Y" jumper to use an external 6VDC battery. PIN 5 is 6vdc, PIN 3 is common ground, PIN 2 is signal. You will have to parallel the Ground wire as it will be used for both power and signal. This is ONLY FOR 6 VOLT batteries! Polarity is important for this application as the signal is coming directly from the output transisitor.
