I know Fred, its old, but here's whats going on...
One of my eyes has been finiky this year, I attributed it to crud on the contacts or weak battery, until last weekend I couldn't get any service out of it.
The meter only goes part way into the green when it's alligned now, and when I turn it off, it does not return all the way to the left. Could it be the meter is shorting, and sucking power?

It is not likely that the meter is shorting it out. More likely that 2 things are happening at once. The transmit or receive diode has gotten overworked either by a power surge or sun exposure. The meter being mechanical is just worn out.

Only way to tell for sure is to send it in. We can arrange for a loaner if need be.

I'll ship it. We have some older Tag eyes for now.
