Hello,
The Alge ASC-1 start clock has several internal programs, each being tailored for specific race situations. One of the settings that changes with the different programs is the Start Tolerance. I would like to be able to set the Start Tolerance to +/- 3 seconds. The manual suggests that Program 4 has a +/- 3 second tolerance, though it contradicts itself at another point and indicates that Program 4 is +/- 5. Program 4 runs, in fact, at a +/- 5 tolerance. Is there a way to set the clock such that the internal semaphore reflects a +/- 3 second Start Tolerance? Thank You, Dale Magnant Originally posted 12 Jan 2001 by Dale Magnant dmagnant@mil.state.vt.us |

PROGRAMMING THE RED/GREEN DISK (SEMAPHORE) ON THE ALGE ASC1 START CLOCK (3 seconds)
All of the preset start sequences available in the ASC1 start clock use 5 seconds on either side of "0" for the display of the Green disk. This happened when Alpine skiing went to this format in the early 90's. You can force the disk to display 3 seconds (or other time up to 10) on either side of "0". It is not easy to do and will require patience. This programming should be done the day before your race so that the testing can be done in quiet circumstances. Changes will be saved so it will work the way you want in the morning. Select on of the existing programs that satisfies all of your needs except the disk. We will use Program 1 for example. 1) Start the ASC1 and select Program 1. Allow the clock to start displaying and beeping. Turn down beeper volume. 2) Rotate the knob to position "9" , SIGNAL , and press "*" 3) The LCD display shows Cd: 10 rd, if it doesn't, then press "+" until it does, pause 4) You will now set the benchmark time for the disk to flip to prior to "0". 5) Press "*" to increment to Cd: 3 rd, pause 6) Press "+" until Cd: 3 gr, pause 7) Press "+" until Cd 3 ye, pause 8) Press "+" until Cd 3 gr appears for the 2nd time (like scrolling a gym locker lock around), pause 9) You will now set the benchmark time for the disk to revert to red 10) Press "*" until Cd: -3 gr appears, pause 11) Press the "+" until Cd: -3 rd appears for the 2nd time (scroll around), pause 12) Press the "*" until Cd: - 10 rd appears (this establishes the end of the programming sequence and saves the settings 13) Turn the knob back to "0" 14) The disk should now be updated for this program (1) and will retain these settings after you shut the ASC1 off. 15) Try to make sure that the settings are correct by turning the ASC1 off and then back on again. Re sync and check. Hello,
Thank You very much for the instructions - I tried them and they work exactly as advertised. If only the Alge manual were so helpful. Thanks again, Dale Magnant |
