Thelma Hoesler and Geoff Elder just finished presentations on technology and Technical Delegates at the Fall updates of the FIS TDs. Ted Savagae affirmed the usefulness of live timing in providing information. It was suggested that race organziers re-upload data after the race has been completed and the results have been submited to make sure DNFs, DSQ, etc are listed. Results can also be posted from the software as seen and printed, and this can be useful. Not much of this is new for those familiar with Split Second Software, but this group, as a whole, is not. Live timing was related as another method of displaying information like an electronic leader board.

Live timing is the topic at the moment. We are in Seven Springs Mt. Resort working with the Western Pa Racing Club on getting them up to speed on all aspects of timing and scoring including live timing.

Alan is presenting the new (more simplified) TTRF. Please note, that if you are using wireless, a second form would be used for the start. North American is doing very well, and generally has few issues.

Ted reviews equipment issues in start gates. He reiterated the fact that auto-return start gates are not ok for FIS events. He also provided an example when start installation were incorrect, there is a need to check installations as per manufacture’s specs.

In dealing with photocells, Ted discussed the importance of dealing with photocells in such a way, that the wind can't jog or vibrate the photocell.

He discussed a little about the safety installations at the finish.

He showed fun examples of start clocks, including one from Tag and on from Canadian Tire!

He showed very good (Snowbird) and gave other good examples (Sunday River & Beaver Creek) for timing buildings. Ideal location for these buildings is NOT at the finish line, but below, where you can see everything and asses the entire situation. He expressed the need for tall windows and see what you need to standing or sitting.

That's about it, I highly recommend the FIS TD Update for anyone looking for advanced knowledge.
