Digitech, the italian producer of timekeeping hardware
has recently introduced a new tool suitable for the
synchronization of one or multiple timing devices.

Based on GPS, it replaces the old DCF77-based 'Syncro',
since now in Europe the reception of the DCF long
wave is becoming a nightmare.

GPS sync is nothing new at all, but we found this
small device very useful and reliable.
Accurate and compliant to GPS specifications,
it worked seamlessly while other solutions
didn't provide a reliable result.

The price (€ 740 tax included) is worth the trouble.
Highly recommended.

Microgate has a new GPS syncro that be used with all timing device.
It's result more light and usefull than the Digitech.
I used it and it's a good product.

This product will allow you to us the internal GPS sensor to seamlessly sync Microgate REI2 or RACETIME 2 timers with multipin cable. Other timers or start clocks can be synced with the banana plug jumper socket.

What is the retail price of the Microgate gadget?

2009 pricing:

$850.00 with no cable.

$875.00 with banana plug jumper

The Microgate Microsync seems to be a nice design. We checked, it probably features the market's shortest GPS lock time.

Unfortunately it seems to have an annoying feature that has affected -so far- almost all the devices of this kind (ALGE wrote in its website a deep explanation about how difficult is to get the correct GPS time).

We noticed a shift of one second, exactly 1.000 second from the GPS time. Half an hour later, it locked correctly.

But.... who knows when the time is actually right?
The problem has been discovered by chance, checking two clocks half an our after the synchronization.
There's little doubt about what happened, since the paper stripe leaves no doubts.

This odd feature brings a lot of uncertainty.
Did anyone notice/reproduce the same behavior?

I have not seen this however I usually sync one TIMY with the GPS and use it to sync other devices. ALGE has updated the TIMY GPS sync in its July firmware update to include a three second check when the GPS sync is initiated. Please post a link to the ALGE document that you describe on this subject. I would like to see it.
