I want to share the following problem with everyone so it can be avoided.

If you leave the National/FIS software from Split Second Timing open, and let your computer hibernate you will likely use all your data in the last race file to be opened. I have seen this happen on both Windows XP Pro and Vista on notebooks from different vendors. This can be avoided by 1. backing up your race file to another location on the hard drive or on a flash drive or making sure you close the software. If you suspend or often close your laptop cover, and your computer battery dies, it may try and hibernate, causing this problem when Windows tries to suspend the program so it can be brought back to the same state when it is restarted.

Just and FYI. It has yet to be catastrophic as it happened to me after submitting two races and once to someone else I was helping before the race. Needless to say, it was not fun rebuilding the start lists the morning of the race.

On one occassion when the laptop was not completely plugged in, the battery on dell xps m1710 died, causing the laptop to hibernate. When it was plugged in, the laptop came out of hibernation with the split second program still open and running without loss of data. I was using windows vista ultimate. Regardless, an important lesson learned..just because it looks plugged in...
