Just thought that it was worth passing on some good advice that I just received from the Fred about using batteries in the TIMY.

I notice that on the underside of our new TIMY that there is a sticker that states that the "device is set for rechargeable batteries".

This follows on from the fact that the TIMY has a switch under the label that determines the NICAD or Alkaline setting.

The Fred rightly says that you can use regular NICAd or NIMH AA batteries in the TIMY if the switch is set properly. Do not put alkalines in with the charger on if the switch is set on Nicads. They will overheat and spill their guts.

Together with the Veloresults system, the TIMY will be the backbone of the timing and results handling system that is currently being installed at the new velodrome at the Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC) in Melbourne Victoria. It is due to be completed by Early January 2005.

Regards,
George Proimos.

What do you think of the Timedata Computer TdC 8001? Although not handheld, it is more precise and has more timing channels, George?

The Veloresults software can be used with several different time bases including the TIMY and TDC 8000/8001.

The major requirement for a time base to be used with Veloresults is 4 channels of TOD information with 10,000ths precision. The TIMY and the TDC are equivelent in this regard.

The major advantage of the TDC (and the S4) is the ability to monitor the headset channels from all of the timing points at once. You will need the TIDO adapter for the TIMY to have the same function.

The major advantage of the TIMY is cost. You have to decide if you will use all of the other true timing features.

We use the TIMY with the TIDO for timing the UCI World Cup Classics tour. We used a TDC 8001 to time the 2005 UCI Jr. World Championships in Vienna. Weight is a big concern when we travel and have to pay freight or excess baggage costs. The stadium in Vienna had a TDC so we used it.
