I have been told by our previous timing crew that the Timy must (should?) start on battery power to configure it for a synchronization. I have found that it is possible to sync the Timy with the external power hooked up. What is the best way?

With an older firmware version you had to disconect from external power to get the sync to happen. Now you dont. Either way is fine to set the clock.

How do you get the new firmware and then how do you input it into the Timy?

Firmware is available for download from the Alge Timing website www.alge-timing.com
Look at the menu bar on the left and select DOWNLOAD>Software for Devices with FLASH>Timy Flash Update Vxxx. You will also need the Install Manager available at the bottom of the page. Run the install manager and follow directions. DO NOT disconnect the timy until you have finished. They now list changes in english so you can decide if you need the update or not. If you have not done an update since before september you will be happy to see your memory INCREASE!!

John, Do I attach the Timy to my laptop as if I were going to time a race? The computer will download the firmware and send it to the timy?

Yes,
Download the files from alge.
Install the install manager program.
Connect the timy to your computer via serial cable (same as for timing).
Run the install manager program.
Click on the Firmware tab.
Click on install from file and tell it where the downloaded firmware lives.
Follow onscreen instructions.

You also can do firmware updates and com to file stuff with the USB port on the timy now too. Check out the alge website for more downloads.
