Using a SouthernCross Scoreboard with spilit second

I've been having a problem trying to use a Southern Cross Scoreboard with splitsecond. We have a laptop with 2 serial ports. I've tried every pin combination without success (I believe that 3 is send and 5 is ground). I know that the scoreboard works, it just doesn't seem to work with the laptop. Any ideas?

This is a question that Geoff Elder has to answer. I believe that he is on vacation until early September. www.splitsecond.com

Yeah, Geoff was supposed to visit while he was in the neighborhood, but the mountain was closed. I'll post his answer when I hear from him.

I spoke to Geoff about using a Southern Cross Scoreboard with a laptop. He said that unlike modern scoreboards, the Southern Cross does not work with a RS232 data-stream. You need a device called a power loop adaptor in between the serial port and the scoreboard.

Jefe - Actually its a "current loop" that you are working with. Try B & B Electronics - they stock a ton of oddball serial to something converters.

Did you ever resolve the Souther Cross scoreboard setup? I have two taking up space. I need to either use them or toss. Thanks!
