The S4 timer has adjustable delay settings for different programs. In PC mode (18 channel) Program 3 all of the inputs are treated equally. The only way to adjust them is to use the dF - (delay at finish mode) Press the toggle down to delay and the last value entered appears. The default factory setting is dF-20 or 2 tenths of a second. Increase the tenths by pressing the Red button. If you make a mistake, just keep pressing the button until it scrolls around to what you want. You can also set extremely long delays by pressing the toggle switch up. A period appears indicating that the values are now full seconds. The S4 will beep for the duration of the delay so you can check it audibly. Please refer to your manual on Page 17 for more details.

We use 2 tenths (.2) for timing everything. A bicycle at speed takes roughly one tenth to completely pass over the tape. You want the delay short enough to catch the following rider in individual pursuit qualification. Remember that you can alter the delay (lockout) in every type of timing with the Veloresults program. The default is 500ms (.5). We use 200ms for individual pursuit etc. We use 4000 or 5000 ms for the Team sprint as the teams break up and you don't want a dropped rider to record a team time. This will be interesting to see how the womens team sprint works out on the tour this year.
