S4 giving continuous beep

Just started the S4 for the first time this season and got a continuous beep. Changed batteries, confirmed external power, reset to default settings, unplugged everything. Still beeps. Goes through the startup program OK, and when the clock starts, the needle swings constantly. Any help would be appreciated.

There are several situations that can cause this situation.

The S4 is an eprom based timer. One repair option is to turn off the timer, remove the eprom, clean the pins and reinstall. Re power and see if the S4 responds properly.

The needle swinging can mean the circuit controlling a channel has shorted out.
