I just started working at a race track doing the qualifying laps and have never worked this timer before. Not sure if I am setting it up correctly when I turn it on. Also, sometimes when it reads times, it does not print on printer. Any help would be appreciated. I have the manual but it all seems greek to me.

I have read but it seems all greek to me.

I just put into this job with no training except about 10 minutes. Trying to get familiar with the equipment. Track is in Rougemont, NC.

Here is a quick way to learn:

assuming the printer is connected to the timer make sure you hold in the yellow button as you turn the timer on that will turn the printing on.
The S3 is old technology but it still works pretty well once you have figured out its limitations. The best way to do that is play with it. Most of the diofferent functions are driven by the way you set the buttons when you start the timer. So just jot down the setttings you are working with and then try out the different functions along with the manual.

You should have it figured out in no time, just concentrate on the parts of the manual that are usefull to your application, in other word it's no use to figure out how to set up a speed trap unles you actually need it

PS if by fluke you freeze the display just turn it on and off and start over.

You will probably be using the S3 in "sequential" mode for lap timing. The start and finish inputs are jumped together with a banana plug jumper to allow the start of a new lap when the first is completed. The lap times will print on the printer if it is plugged in and powered. The printer gets its power from the S3 so make sure that the power supply for the S3 is working, the needle is in the green and the nicad batteries inside are ok.

The sequential program will freeze a lap after recording it. Press the yellow button to resume running lap time.

Press red and yellow together to reset to zero.

I know there is way to make it reset automatically but I do not have that info here in New Zealand at the moment. Mark Folds from NASCAR should remember as they used these timers years ago.
