The Tdc 8000 uses the same printer as the TDc 4000 and P4 printer. This electrostatic printer works well at below freezing and in the heat. They do not like moisture and will jam if the paper gets wet or a foreign object falls into the printer. The TDC 8000 allows you to turn the printer on and off using the keys. Page 44 in the manual deals with these concepts.

The buffer mode is very handy if there is a printer jam. You can press the key immediately after the jam happens and it will put the unprinted data into the buffer. Remove the clear plastic cutter from the printer and reach in and clear the debris. Reattach the cutter and then press . The times stored in the buffer should print out.

You can also try toggling the printer on and off with the combination of the keys. Everytime you do this though it will flush the buffer and all the data will be lost. Try to be as brief as possible.

The best way to deal with printer problems is to try to avoid them. No food or drinks near the timer and try to make sure that there are no drips coming from overhead that might land on the paper. Keeping the take up real snug will also help keeping the paper flowing smoothly.

You can make a tool for cleaning the printer of jammed bits of paper out of a plastic beer or soda cup. Make sure that the cup is the flexible clear type such as the SOLO TP 16 made of PETE plastic. Cut a 5cm (2 inch) section out of the cup from the rim to the base. Now cut off the base part so you have a nice edge. Using the rim end as a guide force the tongue of plastic down through the printer in the same direction that paper usually goes. Be firm without going nuts. Roll the paper feed wheel if needed. The stuck piece of paper should be dislodged.
