Our Tag 605 with printer won't print correctly, only very top edge of each line print so the characters can't be read. Any ideas out there,

I had some strange problems with my ptb printer a few years back. As strange as this may sound the problem for me was no prints unless light shined on the printer. I solved for the weekend by shining a lamp on it but had to send it in for service as this was not acceptable. Try shining bright light into the area where the tape comes out and send it in for service when you can. Ask for a loaner as you will for sure be without for a while.

I have had this problem a few years back with a bunch of them that were replaced, back then they were very sensitive to cold, many times the problem went away when we warmed up the unit on a baseboard before using it.

Lately I have seen the problem when the batteries are dead or very low and that even though you might be running on a/c or external power.

So if your batteries are new and it is still doing it send the printer back for repairs.

Bill,

I had a loaner printer here for a while and had the same problem. It turns out it uses quite a bit of power in bursts, more than the external power supply can supply on it's own. I was trying to run it without batteries but it worked fine once I had both batteries and external power.
I presume shining a light on it (especially the sun) warmed the batteries enough to give an extra power kick.

Also make sure you connect the external power supply directly to the printer and not the timer. Both ways will work but this one is the one recommended.
