Is the new Tag HL540 timer capable of only 4 input channels? Can it be expanded to additional inputs with a docking station, or thru a db25 connection (like a Timy or Tag CP705)?
It has 4 on board inputs and has an expandable dock which allows you to connect multiple timers so that they essentially function as one time base, with more than 4 inputs. There are a few versions of the dock that seem to be available.
I will have one in hand in a little over a week, I would have had it sooner, but I was away and had no use for it.
Is it the timer or the dock that you're receiving in a week? Either way, please let me know what you think of the product after you've had an opportunity to give it a test drive.
I used the CP540 for the first time in a ski race this last weekend together with an HL650 wireless system (no hill cable). Perfect system, easy to use, easy to sync (just remember the 600 ms delay when wireless). The timer has only 4 inputs, one of the docking stations seems to have one more input. The timer feels to be designed for ski racing, taking preprogrammed modes in consideration. You can use start and finish on input 1 + 4 and speed trap on 2 + 3 at the same time. In the near future we will try to make tests using CDMA radio transmission, one of our sponsors is an operator.
