Are you looking for hill wire, or simply wire to connect into the hill wire to your sensors (start gates and photocells)? If you're looking for hill wire, I'd highly recommend you go with a minimum of 6 and more ideally 12 pairs of rodent proof burriable grade (double shielded) cable. Get the larges cable (smaller gauge) you an afford, ideally 22 or less gauge.
For short runs, where your biggest concern is the wire being stepped/skied on, stretched, tripped over, etc..., I prefer using 16-2 or 18-2 gauge Carol electrical wire. It has a thick jacket and is stranded so it will take quite a bit of abuse before failing. It will also remain flexible well below freezing which is a plus. You can find it at Home Depot, cheap. Combine that with some Hirshmann VQ20 banana plugs and the cables will last for years.
